for Berlin's largest bank
Berlin-Johannisthal
Berliner Sparkasse, Berlin’s largest financial institution, moved into its new, state-of-the-art office building on the SQUARE 1 Campus in Berlin-Adlershof-Johannisthal in May 2024. The accessible building – the first we have completed and leased long-term on our SQUARE 1 campus – offers an inspiring work environment for around 1,300 employees across approximately 25,000 square metres of lettable space. With its open-plan design and focus on technology, sustainability, and energy efficiency, the Sparkasse site is a shining example of contemporary working.
The building has achieved DGNB Gold, Wired Score Gold, and ECARF certifications and was constructed in accordance with the EU Taxonomy. A key feature is the sustainable energy supply: BTB supplies the entire SQUARE 1 campus with district heating, 57% of which is derived from renewable sources. What is merely planned for the future elsewhere in Berlin – Vattenfall is aiming for a 40% share of renewable energy in district heating by 2030 – is already a reality here.
Despite the pandemic, we were able to deliver the project not only on schedule but even ahead of time. For Berliner Sparkasse, the new location represents a significant step towards sustainability and will further enhance the company’s work culture and strengthen its innovative capacity.
